Changeling

Posted by Qwertfx - March 24th, 2024

Hello everyone!

I'm here to infodump about a project I've been working on for the better part of two years. This isn't really an announcement or anything, I just like to talk about the things I'm making! :)

The project is titled Changeling and has been taking the form of a bunch of stuff including comics, stories, and little animated loops. I'm currently working on a much longer animation that will be several minutes long and I'm hoping I can turn it into a much larger series. I've been writing a ton and have scripts for several episodes already, It's just down to me animating them and getting them uploaded here.

The script is still being worked on, I'm adding new dialogue and story almost every day which has been very fun to do. It's been very difficult to finish - mostly because I keep finding more things I want to explore in this world with these characters.

Synopsis of Changeling:

Gentle could talk to dead people. At least, that's how her mother advertised it. She had childhood memories of talking to strangers who would come into her home and sit at the kitchen table next to the cheap plastic candles her mother had purchased. They would ask lots of questions about deceased loved ones as her mother sat in a dark corner of the room. She had been using Gentle’s condition to get money out of grieving strangers, which was lucrative due to how wildly detailed her hallucinations were.

Changeling follows Gentle and her experiences growing up dealing with the dead and her mother. The whole script with all the episodes and lore I've written so far can be found right here:

It's split up into chapters, each with their respective titles. This is very WIP, a lot of this is still being constructed, lots of parts are not finished just yet, but I've already begun storyboarding and animating the first episode

Right here is the whole storyboard for the episode titled "Shape and the Tiled Room". I still have a few more pages to go to wrap up the ending, but I've already started animating some of the sequences as you can see above!

Some backgrounds I've rendered for the animation:

Here are a few little animated loops I made of some of the characters. These I think are a really good example of what the final animation will look like!

All of this work can be found at much higher resolution here:

I've also created a webcomic of Changeling you can read here!

I've also made a ton of conceptual art of the project, most of which can be found in the links below!

This project has been so much fun to work on, making this stuff is deeply important to me and I love sharing it with people. I have so much more I'm making and I'll be posting more of it soon :)

I like it. Just workshop Shapes name, it is too basic, really a placeholder than anything else.Maybe like Elsen or Koltan, something or other, like some Medieval Age fairy or Fae name.

Looks Awesome!

I've been really hankering for a good animated horror series, and I'm already loving what I'm seeing! Really impressive work, I'm looking forward to watching the first episode :)
